LIU DAILIN

Liu Dailin, Professor of English, the Open University of China. She is currently Director of the Supervisory Committee of English Teaching in Vocational Higher Education, the Ministry of Education. She is on the Advisory Committee of the Beijing Speaks English campaign and also a member of the ELT Advisory Committee of the British Council in China.

Professor Liu Dailin has a master’s degree in Media Assisted Language Teaching & Learning. She has more than 31 years’ experience in teaching English at a distance. She has been involved in producing distance English language teaching programs for the China Central Radio & TV University and has presented some of the programs on TV, including the Chinese version of the Look Ahead TV series produced by the BBC. Her programs have been awarded First, Second, and Third Prizes for Excellence by the Ministry of Education and the General Administration of Press and Publication. She was also awarded the title of “Best Presenter of the TV University” in 1999. “This is English”, an English course jointly produced by the China Central Radio & TV University and the British Open University course team headed by Professor Liu Dailin, received the State Award of “Course of Excellence” in 2007. From 1991 to Sept. 2007, Liu Dailin was Head of English and then Dean of Foreign Languages Department of the China Central Radio & TV University. Professor Liu Dailin has made important contributions to the creation of productive partnerships between the China Central Radio & TV University and other institutions both at home and abroad. She has worked as consultant as well as team leader on some important projects.

Professor Liu Dailin was one of the four who initiated the annual National English Speaking Competition organized by the 21st Century, China Daily, and the annual National English Debating Competition organized by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press for Chinese university students since 1996. She was Editor-in-Chief of the book entitled, “Report on the Development of Foreign Language Education in Vocational Higher Education (1978-2008) ” recently published by the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. Her two co-authored papers on distance education were awarded the Silver Medal in 2006 and the Gold Medal in 2007 for AAOU Best Paper Award by the Asian Association of Open Universities.
